Setting up Campaign Tracking
Follow the steps below to create a Campaign Tracking link. This will create a link that adds WebSTAT tracking information at the end of your URL. This is what you will give to those linking to you. This link must be on the referring page (e.g. Google) and the WebSTAT code tags must be on the destination page (your page) for it to work.
  1. Log into WebSTAT

  2. Go to the Campaign Tracking submenu and select Configure Campaigns.

  3. Select the name of the Campaign. This can be anything you want. For example, you can call it "Google AdWords" or "Link Exchange".

  4. Enter the name of the Keyword or Event Name. This would be the specific link or event that you want to track. For example, you can call it "my keyword phrase". With Google, you can specify unique links for each individual keyword combination that is clicked thru. You can create a unique link for each keyword combination, and use the event name for the keywords. More information about how to create custom destination URLs for each individual keyword combination can be found at Google's site.

  5. Enter the Destination URL. This should be the landing page on your site where the link goes to. For example, a link could be "http://www.your_site.com/your_page.htm". Make sure that the destination URL has the WebSTAT code tags on it. If this page does not have the WebSTAT code tags, it will neither record the visit nor the link tracking.

  6. Click the "Create Link" Button. For example, a tracking link would look like this:

  7. Highlight and Copy the entire link. If it is an incoming link, give this to the outside company. (e.g. Google) If it is an internal link, replace the old link with this new one. For example, if the old link looked like this:

    <a href="http://www.your_site.com/your_page.htm">Click Here</a>

You would replace it so it looks like this:

    <a href="http://www.your_site.com/your_page.htm?WSCam=View+Products&WSEvt=google+link”>Click Here</a>

  8. To see the tracking report, go to the Campaign Tracking in the report menu. This page will display how many click-thrus and visitors there were for each campaign. If you click on the event names on the Campaign Tracking report, it will list the IP of each visitor who followed the link, the time, and the referring URL.
This is not 100% accurate, but is very close. For example, if someone clicks on a link and then closes the browser before they arrive on your page, we will not track it and you will still be charged for the click.
